I work in Carver’s Education Support Services and have a B.A. in Psychology and Linguistics from SFU, a TESL Certificate, and a Speech Science Certificate. I like working with high school students because this is the stage in their lives where they need the most guidance and support as they transition into independence. As a SEA in Carver, I get the opportunity to expand the knowledge that my students have on various subjects. It also gives me the opportunity to teach social skills and life skills in a classroom setting.
As a part-time youth worker, I have the opportunity to bring youth into the community to learn how to act in social settings and how to access resources near where they live. This gives me a lot of opportunities for naturalistic teaching. Working at both jobs, I get to see the students and youths grow. As a Christian, I am often reminded to set an example for others, where I can bear witness and showcase God’s love in all areas of my life.
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity” (1 Timothy: 4:12)
