Fine Arts

At Carver Christian High School our Fine and Performing Arts faculty inspire students to achieve personal excellence in their creative endeavours. Within our supportive and enriched climate, students learn to value the arts and place a high priority on personal expression.

Our Fine and Performing Arts program provides students with opportunities for critical thinking, creative expression, collaboration, and self-discipline. As a result, students acquire the attitudes, skills, and knowledge necessary to pursue a range of career goals with a foundation for lifelong learning.

All students must complete at least one arts or applied skills course at the grade 10, 11, and 12 level in order to graduate, although virtually all students take more than the requirement to create a healthy balance in their lives.

Music

At present the Music Department consists of Concert Bands, grades 9-12 and Choir, grades 9-12. Our bands have the opportunity to travel each year on the band trip, and have been involved in many performances across the lower mainland and the island. Carver’s Music Department strives to create an atmosphere that combines commitment, hard work, fun, and collaboration to bring out the highest level of performance possible.

Art

Art is a powerful medium through which students are given opportunity to express themselves creatively and thoughtfully. The Visual Arts Program at Carver is hands-on, and is not limited to the classroom. Students are encouraged to critically evaluate their own artwork, and view it in relation to the history of art and contemporary practice. No matter what the medium, teachers aim to stimulate the creativity and curiosity of their students.

Theatre Arts

If you want to know just how great the opportunities are in Carver’s Theatre Arts program, talk to Lindsay (’08). In her final year in high school, Lindsay gave leadership in a play called “Softening Stone” which she wrote herself-plot, script, and all! Or ask James (’07) and Michael (’07), who had the unique opportunity to co-direct Carver’s first ever production, “Nothing But the Truth.” The drama club at Carver is creative and innovative, full of the kind of encouraging attitude that would enable any student to display his or her gifts onstage – and at a small school like Carver, there is even more opportunity to do so. You might have the opportunity to write, direct, or take a lead role in one of the dramatic productions presented each semester.
